Work-from-Home transcribing audio to text

You have, no doubt, heard of audio books where someone reads the text of a printed book while you listen to that recording.

Well, this job is exactly the opposite of that. You listen to a recorded speech or a conversation or a meeting between two businessmen or even a legal argument in a courtroom and then type an accurate document–word for word. It is important for a transcriber to be accurate even when transcribing someone speaking in heavily accented English or using words that you may personally find offensive.

The biggest benefit of working as a transcriber is the flexibility it offers. With excellent typing skills you will find that it truly is a work-whenever-you-want-night-or-day job you can do from the comfort of your home.

There are sub-specialties in transcribing that may use skills or knowledge you already have: legal transcribing and medical transcribing and these sub-categories often have higher pay.

If this sounds interesting but you are not sure you have the right skills, you can take a free mini-course or, if you want to specialize, search for “free legal transcribing course” or “free medical transcribing course” online. TIP: do not pay for a course! You can find several good ones for free online.

What you need: a newish computer with fast internet access, a good quality headset, and fast, accurate typing. Excellent English is necessary and having a second language increases your chances of employment.

Where to find these work from home jobs: Transcribe Me, Rev, Go Transcript, GMR Transcription plus several others that you can find by searching for “transcription work remotely” on Indeed or Upwork. TIP: Always be sure to check out the reviews of any company before you start working with them.
